Bambuie Bear Logo Redesign
Project: Redesign Logo, client wanted to add more detail to their original logo and make more of a bold statement with the artwork.
Duration: January 2023 - March 2023
Roles: Graphic Designer
Programs: Adobe Illustrator
Original Logo Design
This is the original logo that the company has been using, the client said they loved the layout but wanted to add more of a punch to the design. The bear was too flat and they wanted to add more detail and make it a good mix of both cartoony and realistic.
They wanted to stick to the original colors but agreed to add some more for the details.
I also suggested adjusting the curve of the lettering and bringing it closer together.
They also wanted to add this design to a new line of hats, I had offered to do a more condensed version of the logo so that we could get more detail on this image for the hats.
Sketches
These were my initial sketches that I sent to the client, I wanted to give them a visual representation as to what I was describing for the condensed version and slight lettering corrections.
Mockups
The full bear layout with the added detail to the bear and the fish. Added a new light tan color to add depth and detail. Added more markings on the fish, which are bass so that they would be more on brand for the type of fish their product is made for.
The condensed version for hats and promotional purposes. In the original they had a green outline on the blue lettering, this version I separated them to give more readability and pop.
I included a mockup of the hat that they are looking to place the new design on so that they can get a closer visual on how the condensed design works on the front of the hat.
Client feedback:
Loves the bear but wants less dark detail at the base. Also wanted the arms raised more above the head.
Wants less detail in the fish, he liked the more simple version of the original. Also wanted the fish to be bigger.
Loves the new version of the lettering that is closer together and really liked the green being separate.
So we went back to the design to bring the client’s first round of revision.
Round 1 Revision
Took out the bulk of the black at the base of the bear and raised his arms higher.
I explained that the fish still needed some detail to match the amount of detail in the bear. I simplified the detail and made the fish bigger.
This is the condensed version so that the client still got the effect of seeing both.
I think the larger fish actually looked a lot better in this version and really helped the design. This will be great for the hats as they will be more of a focal point.
Client feedback:
Loves the bear, said no more changes on the bear.
Still wants detail taken out of the fish, wants them to look closer to the original.
So we went back to the design to bring the client’s second round of revision.
Final Design
The challenge was bringing more detail to the fish to match the energy of the bear while also staying true to the original fish that the client loved.
I sent over a new concept design to show the direction I was going to head to make sure that we were getting closer to what the client was hoping for.
Once I added the new and approved fish to the bear, I played with the coloring some more and found the right combination that touched on all of our parameters.
In the end I think the new fish look great, they have the same added depth that we applied to bear and each really compliment each other.
Project Summary
My Takeaways: In the end this was a great project, I got to do a more illustrated logo and really utilize a style that I enjoy. I will admit that I got a bit carried away with the details in the beginning but I was able to collaborate with the client and come up with a fantastic design in the end. This was a really fun project and I can wait to see it on their packaging, apparel and other promotional items. My client had informed me they had a big Bass show coming up and were going to make a giant cut out of the bear, that’s gonna look so cool!
